BROOKE

BROOKE

I write this poem with sadness and love
Oh, how I wish on this day I could fly like a dove
To my little angel on her first birthday
I've already missed when you learned to walk and to play

Daddy wishes he could be there to celebrate
That one year and nine months ago your Mother was late
We were both very pleased to be expecting another child
Now here you are, one year old and running wild

I pray you do not forget me you are still so very young
But on the other side of the world your Daddies head is hung
I know you don't understand the reason your Daddy left for
But one day you'll be proud that your Daddy helped to deter war

Kids on this side of the world have gas masks to wear
In case neighboring countries send missiles over there
They have air raids and practice hiding each day
It interrupts their childish fun and play

As I grew up this was never on my mind
So now It's my turn to make sure people are kind
To the American freedom we love and share
On my Daughter's first birthday, how I wish I was there

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
I Love You,
Daddy
