Another Blackhawk Down

Another Blackhawk Down

Late last night
I was watching CNN.
News Flash! Training accident,
Another Blackhawk down.

Four soldiers have lost the fight,
Kuwait… Oh, God
Please let him be all right.
Another Blackhawk down.

Killed in Action,
Names with held.
Notify families,
Another Blackhawk down.

It’s going to be a long night,
I settle in to wait
Please God, not him.
Another Blackhawk down

Watching the phone,
Willing it to ring,
Please call.  Please call,
Another Blackhawk down.

American media
Too much sensationalized news.
Thousands waiting, just like me,
Another Blackhawk down.

I don’t want to eat,
No way I can sleep.
I just need to hear his voice,
Another Blackhawk down

The phone rings.  My heart stops.
A tentative “Hello?”
“Hey darlin’, Sorry I haven’t called,
another Blackhawk down.”

Joy, elation, relief,
His voice has never sounded so sweet.
Thank you God, he’s okay
Another Blackhawk down.

Guilt, sadness, grief,
My soldiers okay.
By another the price was paid.
Another Blackhawk down.

Bring comfort, Lord I pray
To the families and loved ones
Who will hear the news today,
Another Blackhawk down.
