7 Tips for Freshening Up Your Home and Health

by Amanda Turner

Your home is your safe space, a place where you and your family can come together and unwind, after a long day. That’s why it is so important that you keep your home in tip-top shape so that you and yours can have confidence that when you walk through the door, you’ll feel relaxed and at ease. If you’re ready to spruce up your abode, here are seven tips for freshening up your home and health:

Create a Sleep Routine

Before you can begin to take on your home, you need a good night of rest. In fact, a regular sleep schedule is important for everything from boosting your immunity to increasing patience with your kids. This is one simple health tip that will give you more energy to not just freshen up your home, but to have a refreshed perspective on your life.

Clean Off Your Coffee Table

Everyone has a place in the home where junk just gets dropped. For some, it might be the coffee table, for others, a kitchen countertop. Regardless of where your junk spot has developed, now is the time to take back that space. Clean off surfaces that are accumulating old bills, receipts, appointment reminders--anything that you really don’t need to keep there. Either organize those bits and pieces somewhere else or decide to let them go.

Breathe Easy

While it’s easy to see what needs to be cleaned out in the open, it can be more difficult to see what needs to be cleaned in your air filters and appliances. Be sure to check on the health of easily ignored things at home--air ducts, vacuum filters, etc., to make sure that your day to day environment is running as smoothly as possible. If you’re not sure what to look for, consider consulting a home warranty company.

Reorganize Your Decor

Many people worry that freshening up their home will require a hefty budget. The truth is that a home refresh can be completely free when you simply move your artwork or photos from one room to the next. Simply by changing up the visuals in each room, you’ll reset your space and make it feel like new.

Clean Out the Garbage Disposal

It’s never a good idea to have a home that smells like last week’s garbage. And if your garbage disposal hasn’t been cleaned in a while--or ever--you may want to give it a try. A drop of lemon-scented dish soap can help, as can lemon or lime rinds. For a really tough stink, consider baking soda. When your home smells nice, you’ll feel better about being there.

Wash the Windows

We tend to look through the windows, without ever looking at them. And when we do, we often realize that they are in need of a good cleaning. Get ahead of the grime by making window cleaning a normal part of your cleaning routine. With streak-free windows, you might just be able to enjoy the view a little more.

Paint an Accent Wall

For a more serious refresh, consider painting an accent wall in the kitchen, living room or bedroom. Sometimes a new pop of color is just what you need to feel more excited about your home. It’s also a low-stakes way to try out an interesting color you’ve been considering, without having to commit.

Now is the perfect time to freshen up your home and health, so that you continue to look and feel your best. With just a few of these tips above, you’ll be well on your way to a new and improved home.
