Description:
  1. The Phillippine Defense Medal was authorized in 1945 by the United States and the Phillippine Commonwealth governments. 
  2. It is awarded for combat service in the defense of the Philippines from 8 Dec 41 to 15 Jun 42, if the person was:  
  • a member of the Bataan or Manila Bay forces or 
  • of a unit, ship, or airplane under enemy attack; or assigned or stationed in Philippine waters for at least 30 calendar days during this period. 
  • A person who meets both conditions above is authorized to wear a bronze service star on the ribbon.  
  1. Although, the medal is NOT authorized for wear on the US military uniform a medal was struck. The medal is a gold circular disc with 10 scallops on the outside edge. A female figure is in the medal's center holding a sword and shield representing the Phillippines. Surrounding the figure is a green enameled wreath and above the figure are three stars. A map of Corregidor and Bataan are at the lower right of the figure and at the bottom left is graced with a floral design. 
  2. It is a red ribbon divided by wide white bands and centering three white stars that form a triangle. The single star is worn uppermost.
